We are proud to announce that micro-internships, mentors, and upcoming professionalization events now have a home on the Whitworth Launch website. This site hosts the applications and internship postings, connecting you directly with the people who want to give you a job.
If you’ve been a part of the honors program for longer than a couple of weeks, you’ve surely heard Dr. Bert Emerson pitch micro-internships as a co-curricular Honors experience you’ve got to have.
Micro-internships are paid, 6-week internships working with local businesses and organizations to complete a specific project. Ideally, you’d work 6-8 hours a week to deliver on the clear goals communicated at the beginning of the internship. Funding comes either from Whitworth donors or the host organization, and the internship may be extended depending on that funding.
There are opportunities in finance, video editing, social media, marketing, and more! The businesses and organizations we partner with are connected to our vast Whitworth Alumni network, and know exactly how dedicated, disciplined, and enthusiastic Whitworth students can be.
Whitworth Launch also hosts mentorship connections. You submit an application, and the Alumni Relations team matches you with a mentor in your field who can help you through some of your discipline’s challenges.
Finally, Whitworth Launch keeps you up to date on upcoming professionalization events like Career Treks. With three currently on the calendar, two in Seattle and one in Spokane, a Career Trek is essentially a “business crawl.” You walk (or bus) from one business or organization to the next, meeting office heads, critical supervisors, and sometimes even CEOs. These opportunities offer you face to face interaction with the businesses that are looking to hire you.
As I’m sure you can tell, we are very excited for the launch of Whitworth Launch. Keep an eye out for new micro-internship postings and think about adding one to your fall or spring schedule!
