The Honors Floor Provides Academic Community

Victoria (Hyewon) Woo, a freshman majoring in health science and piano performance, is spending her first year at Whitworth surrounded by motivated Honors students.

The Honors floor, where Victoria lives, is in Warren second east. This floor was designed as a place for Honors first-year female identifying students to live and learn in community with each other.

Victoria decided to live on the Honors floor because she wanted to engage with students who were similarly academically motivated. So far, she has found this hope to be upheld.

“I feel so motivated and encouraged to work hard on my academics and schoolwork from my floor mates, who are all intelligent and beautiful souls,” she said.

Her favorite parts of the Honors floor are the study environment it provides, the immediate connections it brings, and the community that exists.

Outside of the Honors floor, Victoria has also built connections with other Honors students through the Honors fortnightly lunches,  the freshman Jan term Honors trip, and spending time in the Honors lounge.

Victoria decided to be part of the Honors program because of its focus on more than just advanced academics. She said her goal in college is about more than just books and knowledge, it is about the people and experiences.

“The Whitworth Honors program offers a lot of experiences to students, such as study abroad and internships.”
