Peer Mentor
Student Program Coordinator
Multiple positions available. Individuals in this position are responsible for creating individual connections with new students in the program. These mentors must be willing to represent the message of the George Whitworth Honors program to challenge talented and motivated scholars to pursue excellence of mind and heart, to cultivate leadership qualities and skills, and to pursue lives as problem-solvers. We seek Peer Mentors representing different sectors of our academic campus: School of Business, School of Education, Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and STEM. Peer Mentors will work with Program Director, Honors Faculty, and Honors student leaders to address specific disciplinary needs and boost opportunities in these areas.
Responsibilities
- average 1 hour per week
- build relationships with Honors Faculty
- make yourself available to new Honors students
- assist at events when needed
- attend bimonthly Honors Student Council meetings
Qualifications
- desire to connect with others
One position available. The individual in this position is looked to as the student head of the program. They work directly with Honors Director Bert Emerson. This individual must be willing to represent the message of the George Whitworth Honors Program to challenge talented and motivated scholars to pursue excellence of mind and heart, to cultivate leadership qualities and skills, and to pursue lives as problem-solvers. They must be willing to connect with people, encourage knowledge of the program, and organize materials and people.
Responsibilities
- average 1-2 hours per week
- work with Program Director on all assigned tasks
- lead bimonthly Honors Student Council meetings
- plan and execute community-building events
- represent the program at campus activities

Blog Editor-in-Chief
*McDonald Scholar—intended for, but not limited to, students who have demonstrated financial need. One position available. Individuals in this position are responsible for sharing the stories of individuals or groups in the program. This individual must be willing to represent the message of the George Whitworth Honors program to challenge talented and motivated scholars to pursue excellence of mind and heart, to cultivate leadership qualities and skills, and to commit to lives of service. Not only will this person run the blog, they will also seek students to contribute articles from a range of experiences (for instance, the Smithsonian Internship Semester, Research/Creative Project successes, Off-Campus Program and/or Internship experiences).
Responsibilities
- average of 5 hours per week
- publish one new article per week
- maintain the Honors Blog
- update blog calendar
- attend bimonthly Honors Student Council meetings
Qualifications
- strong writing and digital design skills
- ability to work with WordPress
- desire to share people’s stories, marketing the best that we do
Marketing Coordinator

Individuals in this position are responsible for all marketing and communications associated with the Honors program. This individual must be willing to represent the message of the George Whitworth Honors program to challenge talented and motivated scholars to pursue excellence of mind and heart, to cultivate leadership qualities and skills, and to commit to lives of service.
Responsibilities
- average of 4 hours a week
- oversee social media campaigns
- work with blog editor-in-chief to coordinate message
- create one video/information series a semester
- attend bimonthly Honors Student Council meetings
Qualifications
- basic design skills
- access to Instagram, Facebook, et. al.
- ability to launch and grow new social media outlets
