Sigma Tau Delta is an International English Honors Society with a chapter on campus, and
nine of our Whitworth chapter members are flying to Pittsburgh to present at the annual convention. Here’s an article with three student’s paper summaries and the presentation schedule (all times in EST).
Thursday, March 20th, is the first day of presentations. In the first block, Melinda Mullet is presenting Creative Nonfiction under the subgenre ‘Family Takes’ and our Chapter Advisor Professor Nicole Sheets is moderating the 11:00 AM and 1:45 PM Original Poetry section.
Also, at 1:45 PM, Kaitlyn Hawker and Sydney Anderson are presenting Original Prose and Creative Nonfiction, respectively.
Kate Vaccaro presents her piece under ‘World Lit: Composing Meaning’ category at 3:15 PM.
To top off Whitworth’s Thursday events, William Henke presents a Research in the Round topic at 4:45.
On Friday, March 21st, Elena Vigil starts the morning early with an 8:00 AM Creative Nonfiction presentation. Elisa Vigil quickly follows with a piece Creatively Inspired by Natalie Diaz at 9:30 AM.
The final Friday, Whitworth presentation occurs at 2:15 PM. Melinda Mullet chairs the ‘British Lit Brings the Drama’ section where Caleb McGever will present his piece.
On the final day of the 2025 “One of Ours” Convention, Saturday, March 22nd, Andrew Doughty presents an Original Prose pieces while Caleb McGever chairs the session at 12:30 PM.
To prepare for the Convention, our chapter of Sigma Tau Delta has been hosting practice sessions where presenters can rehearse their pieces and get used to speaking in front of an audience. The audience then takes notes and points out methods of improvement.
Be sure to cheer on our Deltans from home or hype them up if you see them on campus! These students are going to do a spectacular job representing Washington State and Whitworth University.
