Fun fact: I saw Richard III at the Globe Theatre when I was in London this Janterm, and I did cry about it.

Favorite Honors class: HN401 – Smithsonian Seminar.  This was a part of the Smithsonian Semester internship program.  All of the Whitworth interns got to visit a different museum location each week to hear from a curator, researcher, or fellow about the work that they were doing for SI.  We got to see all kinds of marvelous behind-the-scenes areas, like the conservation lab at the Hirshhorn, and walk through exhibits early in the mornings before they had opened to the public.

Favorite Honors experience: During the Smithsonian Semester, I interned with the Smithsonian Latino Center.  One of my major projects during the semester was to help the SLC prep for the official press announcement of the foundation of the Molina Family Latino Gallery at the National Museum of American History.  The Gallery will be the first permanent space at Smithsonian dedicated to the representation and celebration of Latino history and culture.  I was able to be a staff member at the press event.  It was such an honor to be involved in the announcement – watching the mariachi band lead all of the guests in for their first look at the gallery space was one of my very favorite moments.

Value of Honors Program: The Honors Program has given me so, so many opportunities to travel to and live in cities like Los Angeles and Washington, DC, spend a somewhat absurd number of hours in museums, and work with some really wonderful classmates on projects like creating a land acknowledgement statement for Whitworth through a partnership with the Spokane Tribe.  I have built relationships both personal and professional over the past four years.  I am so thankful to have these experiences and friendships to carry with me as I finish up my time at Whitworth.
