Hometown: Tualatin, Oregon
Major: French
Minors: Development Studies; Theology
Fun fact: One of my favorite snacks is pickles and peanut butter!
Favorite Honors Class: Some of my favorite honors classes were the two sections I took of honors Core. In Core 150, I enjoyed the way the honors section did not add additional work but had us engage with the Core materials in a different way. It enriched our learning with some alternate reading materials. For Core 350, I took the Utopian Movements D-Group with Elise Leal. I loved the content of this D-Group as we discussed utopian groups in early U.S. history. We looked at how these early movements are relevant to the way we seek to improve society and shape policy today.
Favorite Experiences: One of my favorite honors experiences was getting to be the student Conference Assistant for the World Languages Department during my sophomore year. The Christian Association of World Languages conference hosted language professors from all over the country at Whitworth to share their research. I enjoyed getting to work closely with Whitworth faculty to organize the conference, and I learned a lot about event planning. The weekend of the conference was also a fun experience to meet so many professionals who were passionate about language learning.
Value of the program: This program has given me valuable opportunities within my learning and been an asset to my overall experience at Whitworth. Because of the program, I got to build closer relationships with faculty and take honors classes with students from all different majors. It gave me research and internship opportunities that I would not have had otherwise. I am thankful for the way this program has enriched my education at Whitworth, better prepared me for graduate school, and helped me explore my vocation.
