Riia Yazepova, a freshman Honors student, has enjoyed how the Honors floor has connected her with motivated students and friends.

The Honors floor, which currently is housed in Warren 2nd East, consists of a group of freshmen women who have been admitted with Honors. Riia, who is majoring in Global Sociology and Strategic Communications, decided to live on the Honors floor because she thought living with motivated students would “enhance [her] performance.”

She decided to join the Honors program because she found it to be a place of good community that provides students with opportunities to succeed and work hard.

Since joining Honors, Riia felt that it has given her a community to connect with mainly through Honors classes. “[These are] an excellent opportunity to find friends with similar interests,” she said.

Riia has also loved her experience on the Honors floor. “All the girls are welcoming, respectful, and friendly, and those people are great to be around,” she said. “It is definitely a community where everyone supports each other no matter what.”

Riia mentioned that her Honors RA has been especially supportive. “[She] always helped us with our struggles, which is an amazing addition to such an amazing floor.”

Once Riia moves off the Honors floor, she plans on continuing to find ways to engage in the community. “My floor gave me confidence that I will be supported every step of the way and will have friends who also engage with Honors.”

Next semester, she is most excited to engage with new community members, take new classes, and make new friends.
