Hometown: Edgewood, WA

Major: Accounting

Minor: Music; English

Fun fact: I’ve grown out my hair and donated it four times!

Favorite honors class: My favorite honors class is a tie between EL-350 (American Literary Journals) and TH-232 (Wisdom Literature). Getting to learn more about literary journals and all the creative types there are was something I would not have thought of exploring on my own. Wisdom Literature explored three books of the Bible (Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes), and as one of the projects I got to explain in a paper, and a website that we created as a class, links between these three books and Star Wars!

Favorite honors experience:  My favorite experience was working for the Honors Program as a Peer Advisor and Freshman Seminar TA. While some students in the class seemed to have their major figured out coming in, I also got to work with some freshman students to figure out classes to take to explore potential majors for them, and find out how to link their strengths and passions in career planning! Even after their class finished, I was able to help some students with random Whitworth, registration, and life questions.

Value of the honors program: Most people see the honors program as a potential resume booster, but the real gem is the gained knowledge and skills from the classes, study programs, etc. Most honors classes work toward gen eds and/or some majors and minors so you can do both the Honors program and classes toward your degree at the same time! The Honors program has many opportunities for learning, leadership, and career development and can be as beneficial for you as you want it to be.
