Helping the Community through Honors

Jade emphasizes the importance of nutrition and exercise

Jade Truong, a senior who is majoring in health sciences, is using Honors to connect with the community by hosting an teaching event about personal nutrition and exercise.

Participating in Honors gives students an opportunity to fully and deeply explore different projects and ideas. This is illustrated by HN 400, a one credit class where Honors seniors complete an individual project with faculty support and guidance.

Jade’s individual project turned into a teaching event. This event will take place on April 19th from 4:30 – 5:30 pm in Eric Johnston 233. During the Ted Talk-style presentation, two health science professors will speak on nutrition and exercise physiology. The presentation will give college students information on nutrition and exercise and allow them to ask questions, share their opinions, and get advice from professionals.

This project has been a passion of Jade’s at every step, from the beginning vision to the final preparations. She hopes that students will attend this presentation and be inspired by what they see.

“I hope that after this event…they will be inspired to have a positive attitude about food and fitness,” she said.

This project has helped Jade apply her knowledge of exercise science in a practical way that will benefit the community. She said it was a great way to apply her knowledge of physiology and nutrition in a way that helps community members practice a healthier lifestyle.

After graduation, Jade hopes to go to grad school and pursue a Ph.D. in exercise science.
