Hometown: Spokane, Washington

Major: English (Literature & Writing)

Minor: Editing & Publishing

Fun fact: Without meaning to, I started collecting bread tags so they wouldn’t just go to the landfill, and now I have a bunch of bread tags and nothing to do with them!

Favorite honors class: American Literary Journals with Dr. Thom Caraway; this class made me aware of the vast and hectic world of literary journals, which is such a unique and weird branch of publishing.

Favorite honors experience: Spending a month in Washington D.C. in 2019 during the government shutdown; we were meant to be working with the Smithsonian, but we ended up doing a bunch of other cool things like exploring the National Cathedral, visiting the Newseum, and touring NPR.

The value of honors: The honors program has allowed me to do really cool things that I may not have had the opportunity to do so otherwise. I would not have spent a month in our nation’s capitol had it not been for this program. I would not have the current experience of working with a community organizer during this pandemic. I likely would not have helped one of my professors as a researcher for their book project or as a TA for another professor. I would not have gotten to work with other honors students in my WhitTED class, bringing together conversations from vastly different disciplines.
