Curricular Enhancements

To graduate with Whitworth Honors, students must complete all University requirements with a 3.5 GPA or higher and complete 18 credits in the following areas:

Lower-Division Work

  • GE 126H: Introduction to Design Thinking (1 credit)
  • Four Honors courses at the Shared Curriculum level, one from each of the Four Inquiry Groups: (3 credits each; 12 credits total)
    • Belief Inquiry Group (Core, Bib Lit, FRCI)
    • Culture Inquiry Group (Culture & Diversity, Lit & Storytelling, Historical Analysis)
    • Expression Inquiry Group (Oral Comm, Written Comm, Fine Art, World Language)
    • Science Inquiry Group (Math & Stats, Natural Science, Social Science)

Upper-Division Work

  • One upper-division Honors course, or some combination of upper-division research, creative project, or internship (3 credits)
  • HN 300H: The Motivated Project (1 credit)
  • HN 400H: Honors Exhibition (1 credit)

Transfers and First-Years Entering with Credits

Students who enter Whitworth with 30 or more credits have a reduced credit load. Depending on the number of credits transferred, we recommend the following pathways for students in these areas:

30-44 Credits (15 credits required; 3 waived)

45-59 credits (12 credits required; 6 waived)
